Nelson Mandela University and Ellepot brought together forestry experts from across Africa for a symposium focused on the latest silviculture technologies and trends from nurseries to field.
The Modern Silviculture Symposium took place from 15 to 17 October in Howick, gathering around 200 industry stakeholders from across Africa and further afield to learn about the latest innovations and trends in silviculture.
The Silviculture 4.0 symposium, co-hosted by Ellepot and Nelson Mandela University, began on Tuesday, 15th October 2024, in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The event opened with a warm welcome from Shaun Biggs of Ellepot South Africa and Morten Nielsen, Ellepot’s Chief Commercial Officer, setting the stage for a day of thought-provoking discussions.
Day one of the symposium brought together 129 delegates from across four continents, representing diverse perspectives from the forestry and nursery sectors. Speakers from Brazil, New Zealand, and the Netherlands travelled specifically to share their insights, underscoring the value of international collaboration.
With a strong focus on current and future technologies shaping the forestry nursery industry, this global exchange of ideas and practices showcased the importance sharing innovative ideas across borders.
Throughout the day, speakers covered key advancements in nursery automation, sustainable propagation methods, and data-driven approaches to improve nursery management. Ellepot’s contribution to forestry innovation was a significant focus, with its sustainable paper pot system enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the long-term growth of the forestry sector.
With 200 delegates from South Africa, Brazil, Europe and New Zealand, the 2. Day of the symposium event provided valuable insights for the forestry industry.
